Interesting article, though I've read and heard about this many times before. I'd be interested in knowing how many people have truly been able to successfully remove electronic devices from their bedrooms and keep it up for years/permanently. I can absolutely see how they are distracting and keep your brain engaged when you need to be - pardon the pun - powering down, but I find it unrealistic to think that you can truly banish all electronics from the bedroom.

I completely agree with you! I'm one of those people who uses my phone as an alarm, so I sleep with it right next to my head. It's hard not to answer text messages or calls when you see it light up. I've tried to make a conscious effort to turn it over so I don't see the light and to stop using it at least 20 minutes before bed. I'm not sure if I will ever get to 1 hour, but a girl can dream right?

One idea, in case you didn't think or know about it, is setting a "Do not disturb" on your phone for the hours you are sleeping. I have my iPhone set so that from 9:30pm - 7am calls and texts will not ring through unless they are from family members (and in that case it would be an emergency if they were contacting me at that hour). That has helped tremendously even though I rarely get messages that late. But it's nice to know that unless it is a family emergency, no one can disrupt my sleep time. Now if I could just stop watching TV so late into the night! That would help a lot!! haha

I have heard of that! I just never think to do it. I might have to try it out one of these days. I worry about turning my sound off for the sole reason that an emergency might happen and I won't wake up to the call. Tv is the hard part! I used to use my TV to fall asleep but now I've changed that.Gotta improve my sleep hygiene! Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
