Choose to Lose Transformed my life
My graduate school years were filled with unhealthy eating habits and lack of physical activity. My focus was on school and working two part-time jobs, which left very little time to focus on my physical and mental well-being. After graduation and landing a full-time job at USC in 2008, I went to my doctor for a yearly physical (which I neglected for a few years) and reality hit me in the face. I was pre-hypertensive, borderline high cholesterol and overweight. I was weighing in at 172 pounds on a 5’2 frame and I knew I had to make changes fast. I was only 27 years old and I did not want to be on medication or pay the high price of being unhealthy. I immediately joined Choose to Lose the Fall of 2008 and this forever changed my life. With hard work and dedication, I lost 30 pounds over two semesters. Attending class twice per week, logging my food, staying focused, being patient, meeting with the Campus Dietitian periodically and working out 4-5 days/week were the keys to success. It has not been easy maintaining healthy behaviors over the last 6 years and I have had my share of road blocks but I always remember the reason I started this journey-a lifetime of good health!
